Six core values to support our mission

Musical Mentors Collaborative is a nonprofit that provides free, student-centered music instruction to students who would not otherwise have access to private lessons, addressing structural inequities in music education.

1. Expand Access

We strive to overcome inequities in music education by providing high-level instruction to students who wouldn’t otherwise have access. Our goal is to reach students who have been historically marginalized because of their race, class, sexual orientation, or language ability.

2. Students First

At MMC, students are our number one priority. We provide personalized, focused instruction to each of our students, giving them the freedom and care to develop their full musical potential.

3. Pedagogical Growth

MMC is committed to furthering the pedagogical development of our instructors. We aim to provide workshops, trainings, and resources to this end so that we can provide the highest quality education to our students.

4. Diversity

We are dedicated to ensuring a welcoming community for all. We value all types of diversity–demographic diversity, diversity of musical styles, and diversity of ideas.

5. Organizational Excellence

MMC always seeks excellence and growth in pursuing our mission. We value transparency and self-reflection to challenge ourselves to deploy our resources and visionary talents to the benefit of our students.

6. Joy

Music’s potential to evoke joy makes it a powerful vehicle for positive change in our society. Although not all music is itself joyful, the act of creating music should be. We aim to bring a sense of joy to all that we do.
