Musical Mentors Online
Musical Mentors Online offers one-on-one music instruction and mentorship to at-risk youth at no cost. Private music instruction can make a transformative difference for students who identify as neurodiverse learners, are dealing with mental health disorders, are living in poverty, come from immigrant families, or have behavior/discipline issues. Lessons are offered through our online Zoom platform by our professional teaching artists who receive extensive training to best support MMO students.
At MMC we know that a connected youth is a protected youth. Pairing students with Musical Mentors allows them to build meaningful and consistent relationships which can empower them to succeed in their own musical journey and beyond. MMC partners with CASA organizations, homeless shelters, Title I schools, and other youth-serving social service organizations to reach students most in need of musical mentorship.
Students receive a free instrument should they need one and range from grades 3-12. MMC takes a personalized approach to pairing students with their Musical Mentor. Not only do we consider the student’s instrument of choice, but also their intervention needs and relevant characteristics, skills, and interests. Not every family and student are the same and we seek to celebrate the differences of everyone that collaborates with our organization.
Musical Mentors Online is a school-year program (September-May). Students take 25 lessons over the course of the school year and have monthly workshops, studio classes, and recital opportunities all offered through the online Zoom platform. Outside of the Zoom room, MMC offers students and their families free tickets to live concerts and opportunities for behind-the-scenes looks at venues in their communities. We strive to create a community for MMO students, families, and teaching artists to build both a peer and adult support system.
